Will I be charged overdue fines if I don't return an item on time?

Answer

No. The libraries no longer charge overdue fines if an item is returned late, after its due date.

With this change, we ask you to be considerate of others and return your items by their due dates, which will still be assigned to assure our materials will be available and accessible for others who may have a need for them. You will continue to receive due date courtesy reminders and overdue email notices to help you manage your loans.

Other Possible Consequences

Even though overdue fines will not be accrued, there are still a few things that may happen if you do not return your items on time:

  • Eventually, the libraries will consider your unreturned items lost.
  • If you have a lost item on your account, you are responsible for paying a replacement fee and will be billed accordingly.
  • Failure to return the item or pay the replacement fee may result in a block or hold being placed on your library account or college Bursar account.
  • Library account holds are obligations to NCC and may prohibit students from further borrowing of library materials, receiving their grades, registering for classes, graduating, or getting their transcripts.

What to Do if You Aren't Able to Return an Item on Time

If you have any issues returning your items to the libraries by their due dates, please let the libraries know. We may be able to renew them to extend your loan or make other arrangements to assist you with returning the items and prevent replacement fees.
