How do I borrow a book or other item from the library?

To borrow a library book or item from our collections, visit the library where the book or item is located in-person or submit a Library to Go request to have library staff pull it from the shelf for you.

If you feel like browsing to find books, you'll need to know the general Library of Congress Classification sections for the subjects you are interested in, as this is the system the NCC Libraries use to organize the books in our collections. To locate books about your specific topic, be sure to use SpartaCat to search by keyword, title, author, or subject. Library staff and librarians can assist you during your visit.

Visiting the Libraries in Person to Borrow a Book or Item

The NCC Libraries use the Library of Congress Classification System to organize the books in our collections.

Once you have found your book or item, bring it to the library Circulation desk at Bethlehem or the Information desk at Monroe. Present your NCC ID, another photo ID, or library card so that library staff can access your library borrowing account to check the item out to you. You will receive a receipt with the book or item's due date on it.

Picking Up a Book or Item Requested through Library to Go

If you are picking up a book or item that you requested through Library to Go, let the staff at the Circulation or Information desks know you are doing so and they will retrieve it from the Holds shelf for you. The item will already be checked out onto your library borrowing account, and you will receive a receipt with the book or item's due date on it.

Borrowing Agreements

If you are a student, faculty, or staff member, you may be asked to complete a borrowing agreement the first time you borrow library materials, in which you acknowledge that you will be responsible for paying any lost or replacement fees if the item is not returned to us or is returned with any damage.
